Creating ISO - Image File

ISO image is an archive file usually created from optical drives such as CD, DVD.
This can be used to backup bootable disk that can be easily burned to new disk again.
This is very handy if you want to backup your important data such us DVD Movies, Games, Software or your own CD/DVD's that you burned before.

One of many free online programs to create an ISO file from your current CD/DVD is Free ISO Creator.
Just download it online and put your disk in CD/DVD tray. Open Free ISO Creator and follow these steps:
  • Source Folder: Here you click browse and navigate to disk that you want to create ISO from.
In my case that is drive E:/
  • Volume name : Input the name you like to be shown when CD/DVD is loaded.
  • Save As: Navigate to where you want to save your ISO file on your hard drive and
type File name for your ISO. I will navigate to My Documents and save as isotestfile.
Once you are done click create and wait couple of minutes while your computer is creating an image file.
Be advised that some original CD/DVD's are copy protected - that way you will not be to able to create ISO file.

My next post will cover how to burn ISO that we just created to blank CD/DVD.
