Laptops and upgrades

If you are buying laptop try buying the best specifications you can due to lack of upgrade.
There are very few things you can upgrade in your laptop and those are:

  • RAM Memory - If you have enough slots, Usually you have 2 slots so you can add lets say 2x2GB memory cards to have 4 GB on your laptop. To see that RAM in windows properties you need to have Win7 64bit installed and memory remapping enabled in BIOS. If you have 32bit windows ot will show less than 4 GB in properties.
  • Hard Drive - You can upgrade your HDD , you can not add more than one but you can buy bigger hard drive and have it partitioned. Making  two ore more partitions is very useful in case your system crashes. You can format your windows partition and install fresh version of windows without affecting other partitions.
  • Processor - Depending on what socket your motherboard supports, you can upgrade your laptop processor. That is very limited as well, before buying new one check what socket you have and find that particular processor.
Graphic Cards are integrated with motherboard and can not be upgraded or changed.
Laptops are not good for Gaming unless you have Gamer Laptop such as alienware or asus
the republic of gamer. Standard Laptops will overheat and it can lead to motherboard failure.
